Lake Louise Ready For Sochi Bound Ski Racers

The men's downhill course is set, fast and ready for action during the 2013 Lake Louise Audi FIS Ski World Cup – Men's Downhill and Super-G, November 30 – December 1. These are the first World Cup speed events of the year, and kick-off the Lake Louise Winterstart festival.

Lake Louise World Cup"It's great to see the Canadian Cowboys, Jan Hudec, Manuel Osbourne-Paradis and John Kucera come out to take on the world as they prepare for their Olympic run.  All of us at the Lake Louise Ski Resort are proud to be able give our Canadian athletes this chance and we want to thank all of the staff and volunteers who have worked hard to make it happen" says Charlie Locke, Resort Proprietor.

The Lake Louise Winterstart World Cup is one of a select few venues that holds both the men's and ladies' speed events on the World Cup circuit, and is the only event of its kind in Canada. Winterstart is broadcast to a global audience in excess of 184 million.

Bruce Hamstead, Executive Director, for Winterstart Events Ltd., said the exceptional course was built with the help of close to 400 volunteers who execute the World Cup races annually. "After weeks of preparation, with the help of the hardworking volunteers working daily, the race course at Lake Louise is now ready," Bruce said. "These races are extremely important as athletes try to qualify for their nations' teams and represent their countries in Sochi." In addition to some of the best snowmaking and grooming in the country, Lake Louise Ski Resort accumulated over a metre of fresh powder during these first few weeks of operation, making for ideal course preparations.

The fan cheering section in in the finish area is open from 10am – 3pm and is a free, family-friendly venue featuring marshmallow roasting, a winter obstacle course, cowbells and tattoos for the kids. The Treaty 7 Nations will be there with an authentic tepee, including dancers, drummers and elders making bannock.

And remember, Kids Ski Free at Winterstart. When you buy an adult lift ticket, you can get two free tickets for kids 12 and under; don't forget to say, "Go Canada Go!" to get your free tickets!
