Posted Wednesday, November 23, 2011: La Nina is bringing her first big winter storm of the year to the Lake Louise Ski Area. Over 30 centimetres of fresh has accumulated in the last 24 hours alone and 140 centimetres of snow has fallen this season to date.
With another 13 centimetres expected today, avalanche-control crew is working furiously on the backside to open Paradise Chair this afternoon and Ptarmigan Chair, Larch Chair and Temple Lodge are scheduled to open tomorrow, too. While the magic carpet has yet to start, all major lifts will be in operation come Thursday.
“We couldn’t have asked for better timing for this storm. This weekend will be thrilling with the Winterstart World Cup kick-off, and now that we can open all this new terrain, we are extremely excited,” says Proprietor Charlie Locke. “The season is now truly underway, and with the snow still falling, it’s shaping up to be a wonderful winter in Lake Louise.”
Beginning today, a new temporary terrain park will open for skiers and riders on lower Wiwaxy. Several features will be in place, including a Flat Box, Flat Down Rail, Medium Jump, Rainbow Box, and more. Later this season, the Showtime Terrain Park, and the Canadian Rockies’ finest, will move to its permanent location off Juniper Jungle and Easy Street.
Also exciting for families, children will ski free during the Lake Louise Winterstart World Cup. Get 2 FREE Child Lift tickets with the purchase of an Adult Lift Ticket by saying the cheer “Go Canada Go” at the ticket counter. This fantastic offer is for children up to 12 years of age, and is valid on November 26, 27 and December 2, 3, 4, 2011. So come out to Lake Louise, enjoy the great early season conditions, and watch the world’s best at the Winterstart World Cup.
