Larch Splendour in Lake Louise

Fall Laches at Lake LouiseThe kids are back in school and ski and snowboard season is two months away; what to do? Lake Louise Summer Gondola’s ‘Lift, Lunch and Larches’ package on offer this fall is the perfect way to experience an amazing performance by Mother Nature.

“We provide an unmatched and safe opportunity to see grizzly bears in their natural habitat, amid some of the most stunning scenery in the world,” says Dan Markham, Director, Brand & Communications. “This weekend will be exceptionally spectacular for hikers and photographers; the Larch trees are turning bright gold, and there is sun and blue skies in the forecast.”

The ‘Lift, Lunch and Larches’ package is wheelchair-accessible and includes a 15-minute ride up Whitehorn Mountain on your choice of a chairlift or in an enclosed gondola. Along the way, look for Grizzly Bears—there have been sightings nearly every day this summer.  Disembark, and it’s a short stroll to a viewing platform showcasing a magnificent expanse of iconic peaks, with Victoria Glacier framing the famous Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise and sparkling lake. Walk (or take a shuttle) down to the Wildlife Interpretive Centre, grab a coffee or an ice cream, enjoy free presentations and displays about local wildlife and ecosystems, or join a hike led by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteer ‘hiking friend’. Trails for hiking independently with your group also start from here. This is one of the best places in the Rockies to see the splendour of the Larches.

Even the best food tastes better in an awe-inspiring setting, and the hearty buffet lunch in the majestic log Lodge of the Ten Peaks at the base area is an ideal complement to this experience.  Yet another reason to enjoy the fall Larches via the Lake Louise Gondola? You won’t encounter traffic congestion on the short access road off the TransCanada and 1A highways and there is plenty of parking.

‘Lift, Lunch and Larches’ is available from 9:30am to 6:30pm (Sept 1 - 8) and 9:30am to 4:30pm (Sept 9-29). The cost is $35.25 for adults, $20 for children and only $4.50 for those 5 and under. (Prices do not include GST).
