The new Skier/Boarder Cross Course at Lake LouiseJanuary 25, 2011 - The Lake Louise Ski Area and Evolve Ski & Snowboard Cross Club are thrilled to announce that a new permanent snow cross course is now officially open at Lake Louise.

While the public got their first taste of this wildly exciting new course last weekend, the “official” grand opening will take place this Saturday, Jan. 29, when Mike Robertson, the silver medalist at the Men’s SBX event at the 2010 Winter Olympics, officially opens the course to the public at 11 am.

The new Skier/Boarder Cross Course at Lake LouiseThe new Lake Louise Snow Cross course is the first one in the province of Alberta.

"It is awesome to finally have a snow cross course here in Lake Louise,” said Robertson.  “The new course will be great for growing the sport as well as a ton of fun for everyone.  This is a great addition to the resort and I am very excited to get out there and try it out!”.

The course, which is located at the bottom of the Juniper run and ends on Easy Street, was designed by Jeff Jhansi and Jim Sidorchuk. It features all the technical data of a National Championship course and measures 650 m. in length and 130 m. in vertical. When not in use for training or racing, the course will be open to skiers and boarders of all ages and ability levels with a valid lift ticket. Helmets are strongly recommended.

The first competitive event in the course is scheduled for this weekend (January 29-30) with a Skier Cross set for Saturday and a Boarder Cross scheduled for Sunday. Both events will be run in a LCQ format and the races are open to competitors of all ages who are members of a national or provincial ski or snowboard freestyle association.
