Economic Benefits

Investment and Employment

The projects outlined in the Long Range Plan will spark significant economic stimulus and job growth, representing approximately $125-$150 million of economic investment.

Tourism

Revenue from tourism in Alberta is projected to be $10 Billion by 2020. The Banff/Lake Louise area is the main tourism draw in Alberta, with the ski areas being a primary focus. Ensuring that the ski areas remain competitive on a global-level is key to continuing to draw visitors.

Winter Use

Winter is low season in Banff National Park and there remains significant room for increased visitor numbers. Improvement of Banff/Lake Louise’s winter visitor experience will help encourage destination visitors to come to the area in winter low season.

Summer Use

In the summer, Lake Louise and Moraine Lake are currently busy, but the Lake Louise Ski Area is not. Improved summer facilities at Lake Louise Ski Area will encourage more balanced visitation across the Lake Louise area and lessen summer pressure on Lake Louise and Moraine Lake.
