About Mindy Johnstone

Like many artists, Mindy has been drawing since she was able to hold a pencil. As a young girl from Winnipeg, she studied the pages of Sears catalogs to understand form and expression. Her greatest influence is her father. He showed Mindy his collection of superheros sketched from high school and later in life she would marvel at his abundance of oil and acrylic paintings. Throughout her childhood, Mindy followed in her father's footsteps and nurtured her own pen and ink drawings where she would often be found creating collages of heroines.

As her own life started to grow and branch out, Mindy took her artistic pursuits to school, exposing her to graphic arts, and later a year of Interior Design. During this time she learned the foundations of colour, perspective and composition. These days she is influenced by whimsical folk art and impressionism. You can view and purchase Mindy's most recent work during her August show at the Wild Flour Bakery in Banff.
