 The Smith Optics Big Mountain Challenge presented by Tecnica/Blizzard is back for its 9th year. The 2012 B.M.C. will mark the first year that the event has categories for both skiing and snowboarding. The event will run Friday (Qualifiers) & Saturday (Finals), with Sunday held as a weather day.
The prize pool is top notch with $4000 in cash to give away and nearly $10,000 in product prizing from sponsors Smith Optics, Tecnica/Blizzard, Fresh Sports and Dewalt. While the swag is an attractive feature, the B.M.C. is also a great opportunity to get together with your shred happy peers and push yourself to get creative in Lake Louise’s BIG terrain. Historically, this event has been held on the backside of Eagle Ridge; an ideal venue because of the number of hits and variety of lines. For the 2012 event, we will revisit old favorites and, conditions permitting, looking to add new venues to the B.M.C.’s repertoire.
This season’s Smith Optics Big Mountain Challenge will take place on the second weekend of March. Typically, the skies are blue and there is still fresh snow on the ground. Two days and three venues will determine the top skiers and snowboarder who will go home $700 cash, tons of sponsor product, and title of Big Mountain Champ.

Skiers and snowboarders will be judged on 5 different categories; Line, Control, Fluidity, Technique, and Style.
