Big Mountain Challenge

The Lake Louise Big Mountain Challenge is back for its 18th year! This big mountain freeride competition is non-sanctioned which means it's chill, laid back and all about FUN! Whether it's your first competition or your 20th, it is sure to be a blast!


There are categories for both skiing and snowboarding for men & women who are 18+! New this year upon request... the Masters Category (40+). Please note: each category must have a minimum of 3 athletes to be eligible for prizes.

Our 3 Judges will use the same criteria as the Freeride World Qualifier and will award points for line, control, fluidity, style/energy and technique! Prizes will be awarded for the podium finishers!

Covid Protocols

Alberta Restrictions Exemption Program in effect. At this time, all spectators, athletes, parents, siblings and coaches who are 12 and over must be fully vaccinated, provide a negative test result (within 72 hours) or provide a medical exemption. Medical exemptions must be provided in advance of your visit. View Safety Protocols Here. 


  • Men Ski (18+).
  • Ladies Ski (18+).
  • Men Snowboard (18+).
  • Ladies Snowboard (18+).
  • Masters Ski (40+).
  • Masters Snowboard (40+).

Note: Masters categories will only be broken out by male & female in each discipline if we receive a minimum of 3 participants per category.

Bibs and Gear

Competitor bibs will be worn during this event. A $40 Cash Deposit will be required during check-in; you will receive this back when the bib is returned! Helmets are mandatory. Back protectors are strongly recommended.

Athlete Package and Waiver

All participants must sign an event waiver for the Lake Louise Ski Resort. An Athlete Package will be emailed out to the email address provided at registration which will include waivers, Athlete Bios, Discounted Ticket Price Info, etc.




Registration is now available! Fees are $60 + GST. This does not include your lift ticket. Swag item included.

Discounted Lift Tickets

We will be offering a 20% discount on the purchase of your lift ticket. Please see the Check-In desk on the morning of the event. Or, you can purchase a discounted ticket when you register online.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation Policy: If a rider requests a refund more than two weeks prior to the event date, a full refund will be issued. No refunds will be provided for cancellations made less than two weeks before the event date, unless a the cancellation is due to covid-19.

Event Cancellation Policy: If the event is cancelled due to weather, covid-19 restrictions or unforeseen circumstances prior to the start of the event, a refund will be issued to all participants. If the event has to cancel partway through, a 50% refund will be issued.


Friday March 18, 2022 – ONE RUN & DONE! 

*Please note, there may be changes to this schedule to comply with evolving covid-19 protocols. Please keep an eye on this schedule. Updates will also be sent out to athletes via email. 

  • 7:30am – 8:15am: Mandatory check-in at the Sitzmark Lounge.
  • 8:15am: Mandatory coach & athlete meeting in the Sitzmark Lounge.
  • There will be no late registrations available the day of.
  • 9:00am: Load Glacier Chair & Top of the World Chair.
  • 9:30am – 10:30am: Mandatory Inspection Runs (no hitting of features.)
  • 11:00am – 4:00pm: ONE RUN & DONE! Each participant will get one run to show us their stuff.
  • 4:00pm – 6:00pm: Results & Awards, more details TBD.


These rules are governed by the IFSA and the Lake Louise Ski Resort Patrol.

  • Competitors may go in and INSPECT their lines only, which includes skiing or riding down and looking at the features.
  • Competitors are NOT allowed to jump over any features.
  • Competitors MUST have their bib on during inspection.
  • This area will be monitored by the Technical Director and you will be DQ’d if these rules are not followed.
