The North Face Jr. Big Mountain Challenge

The North Face Junior Big Mountain Challenge returns for its 12th season for what will be another exciting and competitive event.  The event is a part of the North American Junior Freeski Tour, sanctioned by the International FreeSkier Association.  Freeskiers will be able to earn valuable points at the Junior Big Mountain Challenge and be ranked among the top junior freeskiers in North America. Skiers compete on different venues over the course of two days and are judged on line, control, fluidity, technique, and style. IFSA Membership & The Driven Platform

To participate in this IFSA Sanctioned Event, you must have an active membership through the IFSA before you can compete. This will link you with the registration platform, called The Driven. If this will be your first and only Freeride competition this season, you only need to pay $25.00.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations made greater than 2 weeks prior to March 1st, 2018= we will remove the athlete from the start list and issue a 100% refund*.

Cancellations made greater than 1 week (but less than 2 weeks) prior to March 1st, 2018 = we will remove the athlete from the start list and a 50% refund will be issued*.

Cancellations made less than 1 week prior to March 1st, 2018 = we will remove the athlete from the start list and no refund will be issued*.

*Please note, The Driven fees and other sanctioning fees will not be refunded. 

Schedule

Thursday March 1st, 2018

  • 8:00am - 4:00pm: Competitor Check-In and late registration at The Season Pass Desk (upstairs in WhiskeyJack).
  • 9:00am - 12:00pm: The Qualifier Run (ER-7) will be CLOSED to Athletes as well as the public. This will ensure that the venue can be ready for the competition with boundaries roped off, etc.
  • 12:00pm: The Qualifier Run (ER-7) will be closed to the public at this time, and inspection will begin for athletes & coaches only. If the Athlete is not part of a club and does not have a coach, 1 parent will be allowed to join the inspection with the athlete. 

Inspection Times & Rules:

Competitors may go in and INSPECT their lines only at this time, which includes skiing down and looking at the features. Athletes are NOT allowed to ski or jump over any features.  Athletes MUST have their bib on, which is to be picked up at the Season Pass Desk earlier that morning. This area will be monitored and you will be DQ'd if these rules are not followed. To get to this run on the backside, take Glacier Chair & Top of the World Chair, and from there you will see the signs.

Inspection Day is not mandatory, but highly recommended.

  • 12:00pm: Inspection for 7-11 Year Olds.
  • 1:00pm: Inspection for 12-14 Year Olds.
  • 2:00pm: Inspection for 15-18 Year Olds.

Friday March 2nd, 2018 (7-11 & 12-14 Qualifiers)

  • 7:15am - 8:00am: Check In at the SITZMARK LOUNGE.
  • 8:00am: Coaches Meeting at the SITZMARK LOUNGE.
  • 8:15am: MANDATORY Athlete Meeting at the SITZMARK LOUNGE.
  • 9:00am: Load the Glacier & Top Of World Chairs.
  • 9:20am - 10:30am: Venue Inspection (no hitting features at this time). We will run groups from the youngest skiers to the oldest. Please check in with the Patroller at the top of the venue.
  • 11:00am: Qualifying Runs all day.
  • 4:00pm - 6:00pm: Results of the day and a quick athlete meeting at the SITZMARK LOUNGE, once the judges have had time to tally the scores. Bib Return available.

Saturday March 3rd, 2018 (15-18 Qualifiers)

  • 7:15am - 8:00am: Check In - SITZMARK LOUNGE
  • 8:00am: Coaches Meeting - SITZMARK LOUNGE
  • 8:15am: MANDATORY Athlete Meeting -  SITZMARK LOUNGE
  • 9:00am: Load the Glacier & Top of World Chairs.
  • 9:20am - 10:30am: Venue Inspection (no hitting features at this time).
  • 11:00am: Qualifying Runs all day.
  • 4:00pm - 6:00pm: Results of the day & a quick athlete meeting in SITZMARK LOUNGE, once the judges have had time to tally the scores. Bib Return available.

Sunday March 4th, 2018 (All Category Finals)

  • 8:00am - 8:30am: Check In/ Bib Return at SITZMARK LOUNGE.
  • 8:00am: Coaches Meeting at SITZMARK LOUNGE.
  • 8:15am: MANDATORY Athlete Meeting at SITZMARK LOUNGE.
  • 9:00am: Load the Glacier & Top of World Chairs.
  • 9:20am - 10:30am: Venue Inspection (no hitting features at this time). We will run groups from the youngest skiers to the oldest. Please check in with the Patroller at the top of the venue.
  • 11:00am: Finals Runs all day.
  • 3:00pm - 6:00pm: Please join us for free chili in the SITZMARK LOUNGE.
  • Awards are held in the SITZMARK, after the judges have had time to tally the scores. There is no set time for the awards... once the 15-18 Boys have finished their run, please make your way to the Sitzmark Lounge. The judges generally need at least 1 hour after getting back to the main lodge to review the scores and post results.
Bibs

Competitor bibs will be worn during the event. A deposit of $20 cash is required at check-in. You will receive this back when your bib is returned at the end of the event.

Waiver

All participants must sign an event waiver. To save time on the day, feel free to download, print and sign your Event Waiver hereIf you are under 18, your parent, guardian or coach must be present on event day to sign the waiver. If they cannot be present on event day, please have them call Leigha at 403-522-1316 before the event. 

Lift Tickets 

Athletes & parents are eligible for the Event Discount of 20% off! Tickets can be purchased as multi day or single day. A full breakdown of pricing will be added here soon.

Coaches who are IFSA Certified are eligible for a lift ticket deal. Certain criteria must be met. Please email leigha.stankewich@skilouise.com for details.
