Update on Charleston Residential Fire Incident and Relief Efforts

On July 3rd, 2023, a fire occurred at the Charleston Residence in Lake Louise, AB, which housed staff of the Lake Louise Ski Resort. Thankfully, all 173 individuals living there were safely evacuated without injuries.

The fire caused significant devastation, leaving affected individuals without belongings and identification. Our immediate efforts included financial aid, short-term accommodations, meals, transportation, counseling services, and assistance replacing documents. We are actively working on finding mid to long-term housing solutions.

The community generously donated clothing, toiletries, and household items to support the residents. At this time, we have paused accepting physical items until we have more clarity on what future needs may be. We express our gratitude to all contributors, including donors to the 'Bow Valley Emergency Fund' by the Banff Canmore Community Foundation and the primary GoFundMe account. Next week, funds from these accounts will be distributed to the residents. For those still interested in donating to the cause, The Bow Valley Emergency Fund remains the most effective means of support. Donate here.

Our Summer Gondola operations are temporarily closed for the wellbeing of our staff. Shuttle services to Lake Louise or Moraine Lake are still operating from our parking lot. Stay updated on our reopening date at skilouise.com and @skilouise on social media.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the affected individuals and a huge thank you to emergency responders, fire departments, Parks Canada, and all involved in the evacuation, containment, and relief efforts.
