Bears, along with many other wildlife species are most active during the cooler hours of the day, especially early in the morning or later in the afternoon and evening. If you’re hoping to spot bears, the Lake Louise Summer Gondola is well known as one of the best places in the Canadian Rockies to safely view them in their natural habitat. You may also see other wildlife such as lynx, moose, mountain goats, elk, and deer. There is always something wild to discover in Lake Louise. Learn more here.
For safety reasons, pets are not permitted on the gondola, with the exception of certified disability assistance animals.
If you are travelling with an assistance animal, please inform our ticket counter staff when you arrive. Dogs are welcome on the resort grounds and may join you outside while you enjoy lunch on the Banded Peak Deck.
Both the closed gondola cabins and open chairs fit up to 4 people. If you are a family of more than four, you will have to split up into separate chairs. Children under the age of 12 or under the height of 42" (106cm) must be accompanied by at least one adult, and may ride in an enclosed gondola only.
The Gondola normally operates between 9am and 4:30pm. The last ride down from the top is 5:10pm.
Whitehorn Bistro is open from 11:00am-3:45pm, and is mainly first come, first served. However, reservations are available during peak hours (11:00 am to 1:00 pm) online, by phone at 1 (403) 522-1310, or by email at whitehorn@skilouise.com.
The Gondola is accessible with wheelchairs or strollers, with exceptions. They need to be able to fold up so that they can be transported up the lift in a separate gondola cabin. The paths at the top of the Gondola can be steep and are made of gravel, which is not always easy for those travelling in a wheelchair or using a stroller. We do happily offer courtesy rides both down to the Gondola from the lodge and from the top of the Gondola down to Whitehorn Bistro, however we can understand that this may impact your ability to enjoy your experience at the Gondola.
Getting to the Lake Louise Summer Gondola is easiest by car or rv. We are located in beautiful Banff National Park, approximately 2 hours (184 KM or 115 miles) west of Calgary and 40 minutes (60 KM or 36 miles) west of the town of Banff on the HWY 1.
We have ample parking for both cars and RVs alike! If you’re looking to get to us from the village of Banff, check out the Roam Transit schedule that will get you to the Lake Louise Village. From there, hop on our free village connector to get you to the resort.

No, the Gondola runs continuously between the hours of 9:00 & 4:30, leaving it wide open for you to plan your adventure.

Your Gondola ticket is a round trip ticket usable any time during regular operating hours.
Unfortunately, hiking down the mountain is not permitted due to a protected wildlife corridor. This corridor is vitally important for allowing bears and other wildlife to travel safely without human interference. While riding up the gondola, you'll soar directly above the corridor, so keep an eye out for local wildlife.
Please note that marked walking trails are available near the top of the gondola (as conditions allow).
The top of the gondola sits at an elevation of 2,101 metres (6,893 feet) above sea level, offering sweeping views of the surrounding Canadian Rockies.

If you’re interested in exploring one of our hiking trails, please consult the trail map here. Depending on your fitness level and ability, these trails typically take 1 to 2 hours for a return trip.

The “Dine” portion of the Ride & Dine is conveniently located at our Lodge of Ten Peaks Cafeteria at the base area.
Public restrooms are available at the Lake Louise Lakeshore. However, there is no public access to the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, so we recommend grabbing water, snacks, or lunch at the resort before you depart.
The shuttle to Lake Louise takes about 15 to 20 minutes, depending on traffic. The Two Lakes Shuttle takes approximately 2.75 to 3 hours round trip, which includes about one hour at each lake and roughly 45 minutes of travel time between the Resort, Moraine Lake, and Lake Louise.
That’s completely up to you. If you’re visiting the lakes to take a few photos and check them off your bucket list, we recommend allowing about 1 to 1.5 hours. If you’re interested in exploring the many beautiful hiking trails around Lake Louise, please consult the Parks Canada trail conditions page for details on trail length and estimated hiking times.
